Cancun Recovery Efforts after Hurricane Wilma

Mexican President Vicente Fox has declared Cancun's famous beaches fully restored well ahead of the April 30 deadline. A mere six months after hurricane Wilma roared ashore.

Apparently, the 24/7 dredging program that started Feb. 1, cost $21.5 million. It dredged approximately 96 million cubic feet of sand from 22 miles offshore using two ships to pump the sand back onto the beach. Local officials have announced that they achieved the desired results and that the 7.5-mile stretch of sand between Punta Cancun south to Punta Nizuc is even wider than it used to be.

I'm glad to see that things are getting back to normal...
